How to Create and Progress your Sessions;
"Quick Easy Guide + Free Complete Session Download" |
|
Hi [fname],
After the last 2 emails I sent, I have received a number of emails and live chats asking:
"how do you create the drills from the tactical analysis game situations?".
I personally find it very quick and easy to do, below is a step-by-step guide: |
- Simple quick guide how to plan and create practices
- Complimentary session download containing 5 practices |
|
|
STEP 1 of 3
Game Situation - Real Madrid Analysis |
Description |
|
Diagrams 1 and 2 are based on: A Tactical Analysis of Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid
This game situation is:
"Quick Decisions while attacking through the centre".
Diag. A: Simple forward pass to the striker who passes back to the supporting midfielder.
Diag. B: The 3 forwards make runs into the box. The midfielder has to make a quick decision who to pass to or take it on and shoot on goal. |
|
STEP 2 of 3
How I breakdown the Game Situation |
Description |
|
To make it easier for myself, the first thing I do is take out the players that are not involved.
I then look for the shapes, passing combinations, types of runs, and passing options etc.
Diag. A: As you can see, I have highlighted a triangle shape. Each point represents the starting positions of the 3 players involved.
Diag. B: In the second phase, we have a diamond shape which represents the players runs (diagonal and curve) and the passing angles. |
|
STEP 3 of 3
Creating the practices with progressions |
Description |
|
After step 1 and 2, I create practices to practice this game situation.
I first like to start off by practicing the game situation unopposed, then I gradually introduce additional players i.e. defenders.
Diag. A: I created this practice unopposed but added 4 mannequins to represent the 4 back-line defenders. A very similar pattern to the analysis is practiced from both the right and left side.
Diag. B: Only after practice A is executed well from both sides would I progress the drill by introducing 2 central defenders and a 2v1 situation in the centre. |
Summery:
That's it, quite simple and very quick to do, this particular one took me just 10 minutes total to see the shapes, break it down, and think/create the practices. |
Important:
As well as practicing game situations by top level teams, this same 3 step procedure should be applied to your own teams performances. This will enable you to analyse what your team needs to work on and practice it. |
